Bluewater man accused of driving twice legal limit with child in vehicle

A Bluewater man is facing charges after a traffic stop revealed he was twice the legal limit while driving with a child in the vehicle last weekend.

According to a news release, just after 9 a.m. on March 21, Huron County OPP officers were conducting radar enforcement and stopped a vehicle for speeding on Zurich-Hensall Road.

The driver was subsequently arrested for impaired operation, and at the Huron County OPP detachment in Clinton a breathalyzer test resulted in readings twice the legal limit.

Police say a young child was inside the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop.

As a result, a 38-year-old man from Bluewater has been charged with the following offences for his alleged involvement.

• Operation while impaired - over 80
• Dangerous operation

The accused was additionally charged with operating an unsafe vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act.

The vehicle involved was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’s driver’s licence will be suspended for 90 days.

The accused was processed and later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich on May 4.
