Day of watches and warnings for southwestern Ontario

Environment Canada issued a tornado watch for London and surrounding counties and severe thunderstorm watches and warnings for a number of areas in southwestern Ontario Wednesday.

The forecaster issued the tornado watch at 9:50 a.m. Wednesday morning saying conditions were favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which could produce tornadoes.

The watch ended for the London area just after 6 p.m., but watches and warnings remained in place in various locations across the region at that hour.

Enviornment Canada was also reminding residents about what to do in the event of a tornado. It is recommended you take the following actions:

There were numerous localized incidents of high winds and heavy downpours around the city and county, but no reports of serious damage.

There are also reports that Environment Canada is investigating reports of a funnel cloud in the Keswick area east of Barrie, Ont.

The severe weather is expected to move out of the region after a frontal trough rolls in later Wednesday.
