Two Chesham Avenue accused appear in court for bail hearings

Two of the accused in the Chesham Avenue weapons investigation made a court appearance on Tuesday.

Fei (Frank) Han, 25, appeared in the prisoner’s box on Tuesday as testimony was given through a Mandarin interpreter.

A publication ban has been imposed on evidence heard at the hearing related to a rash of weapons-related offences.

The justice will deliver her decision on whether Han receives bail or not on Friday.

In another courtroom, Faiyang (Astrid) Ji, 21, appeared via zoom from the Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre.

She was remanded into custody until Feb.17.

On Monday Zekun Wang, 26, made a court appearance. His case was moved to Friday where a date will be set for a bail hearing.

London police also announced Monday they had cleared Chesham Avenue.

A media briefing was held on Feb. 6 police where police said during recent searches in Ottawa and Gatineau, police seized more firearms and explosive materials.

Police said items seized during multiple search warrants suggest the accused were involved in manufacturing firearms and explosives.

Despite the discoveries, investigators emphasized there is no apparent threat to national security.

The investigation began on Jan. 24 after a person with a gun was found trespassing at an engineering building on campus at Western University.

Police said they found hazardous chemicals inside a home located at 212 Chesham Ave. that could be used to make explosives.

In total, four people are facing numerous weapons offences.
