Calm before the snow: Flurries begin this afternoon

A large amount of snow is expected over the weekend in London, with Environment Canada issuing a snowfall warning.

Heavy snow is expected, reaching up to 15 cm beginning late this evening and heading into Sunday.

Along with the snow, Saturday night is expected to bring strong winds, setting up the ideal night to stay home and remain off the road. According to Environment Canada, visibility is expected to be reduced at times.

The weekend doesn’t see much improvement, as Sunday sees the potential for snow squalls.

More flurries are expected to fly throughout Sunday, with the potential for heavy snow at night.

Saturday: Mainly sunny. Increasing cloudiness this afternoon then 40 per cent chance of flurries late this afternoon. Wind up to 15 km/h. High plus 1. Wind chill minus 10 this morning. UV index 1 or low.

Saturday night: Snow. Amount 10 cm. Wind south 30 km/h gusting to 50. Low minus 2. Wind chill minus 8 this evening.

Sunday: Snow changing to periods of rain mixed with snow in the morning and ending in the afternoon then cloudy with 60 per cent chance of flurries. Snowfall amount 2 to 4 cm. Wind southwest 40 km/h gusting to 60. High plus 2.

Monday: Increasing cloudiness. High minus 2.

Tuesday: A mix of sun and cloud with 30 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 1.

Wednesday: Cloudy with 30 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 2.

Thursday: Cloudy. High minus 2.
