Back to regularly scheduled February programming as temperatures rebound to seasonal norms

There is a chance of flurries in the London area as temperatures finally return to seasonal norms. CTV's Julie Atchison breaks down the forecast.

A mix of sun and cloud is expected over the course of this week as temperatures finally rebound to seasonal norms for early February.

CTV News London Meteorologist Julie Atchison says a warm front that’s moved into southern Ontario has put areas such as Sarnia, Chatham and London into the “warm sector,” while cooler temperatures may cause some snowfall out towards the GTA.

Tuesday’s daytime high will break above the freezing mark, reaching 1 C.

A cold front however will move through the region and shift the winds in a northwesterly direction, leading to the generation of lake effect flurries Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Tuesday’s overnight low will dip down to –4 C, feeling like –12 with the wind chill.

“The forecast high Wednesday afternoon, so we’re back below freezing, but we have a little bit of sunshine in the extended forecast,” Atchison said. “We could see some peaks of sunshine tomorrow, but clouds will dominate in the afternoon.”

Wednesday’s high will reach –3 C, feeling like –12 with the wind chill, and a 70 per cent chance of flurries in the afternoon.

Atchison says overcast skies will be the hallmark for Wednesday and Thursday, with daytime temperatures of 0 C and 4 C respectively and plenty of sunshine expected on Friday and Saturday.

“So fairly quiet weather pattern,” Atchison said. “Next opportunity for some measurable snow will come into [the] afternoon, although I am just expecting trace amounts across the region and temperatures on the right side as we head toward the weekend.”

Tuesday night: Becoming cloudy this evening. 30 percent chance of flurries overnight. Wind becoming northwest 20 km/h gusting to 40 late this evening. Low minus 4. Wind chill minus 12 overnight.

Wednesday: Cloudy. 30 percent chance of flurries changing to 70 percent chance of flurries late in the afternoon. Wind northwest 30 km/h gusting to 50. Temperature steady near minus 3. Wind chill near minus 12. UV index 1 or low.

Thursday: Cloudy. High minus 3.

Friday: Sunny. High zero.

Saturday: Sunny. High plus 4.

Sunday: Cloudy. High plus 3.

Monday: Cloudy. High plus 2.
