6 teens charged after string of break and enters in city’s south end

Six teenagers, ranging in age from 13 to 17, are facing a multitude of criminal charges after allegedly causing kicking in the front doors of several homes and shooting at one homeowner with a weapon when confronted.

According to a news release from the London Police Service (LPS), between the hours of 12 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, members of the LPS Uniformed Division responded to several calls pertaining to suspects kicking in and damaging front doors and causing property damage to homes in the city’s southwest end.

Shortly before 1:15 a.m. a homeowner woke to the sound of his door being damaged and saw several suspects getting into a white vehicle.

Police say the homeowner followed the vehicle as it left the area. When he approached the suspects, they brandished what appeared to be firearms and pointed them at the victim before firing them at him and his vehicle.

The homeowner was uninjured and was able to provide a description of the suspects and the vehicle to police.

Shortly after 5 a.m., officers located the suspects and their vehicle in the area of St Lawrence Boulevard and Hillsborough Road a short distance from the last attempted break and enter.

When police approached the vehicle, three suspects fled but were arrested nearby, while three others in the vehicle were arrested without incident.

A search of the vehicle yielded a rifle style airsoft gun and handgun style BB gun.

As a result of the investigation, six males between the ages of 13 and 17 years of age, and who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, have been jointly charged with the following offences:

• Break and enter with intent (five counts)
• Attempted break and enter (five counts)
• Disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence
• Point firearm
• Discharge air gun with intent to endanger life
• Use an imitation firearm to commit an indictable offence

Four of the six accused have been released and are scheduled to reappear in London court on April 13, while the other two remain in custody and are scheduled to reappear in London court on Wednesday in relation to the charges.

The investigation remains ongoing.
