After keeping a low profile this summer, Selena Gomez posted a photograph Thursday of herself in a hospital bed beside Francia Raisa, a television actress who donated her kidney to the pop star in her ongoing battle with lupus.

“There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice,” Gomez wrote in the Instagram post.

While Gomez may be a household name, Raisa is not as well known. Here are five things to know about her.

She’s a star herself

Raisa, 29, has made a career in television. She’s best known for her role in the series “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” as well as cameos on “The Mindy Project” and “Dear White People.”

She and Gomez are longtime friends

Gomez and Raisa have forged what they describe as a life-long friendship. Raisa has described Gomez as a “forever friend” and a “sister” and has said the pair have been friends since at least 2008.

In an Instagram post from last summer, Raisa said Gomez was there for her after a breakup and has called her while backstage at concerts.

“Whether it’s crying, laughing, or simply sitting on my kitchen floor throwing our hands up in the air confused at life, I'm thankful you're always there,” she wrote.

She’s pals with other celebs

Gomez is just one of several famous friends in Raisa’s circle. She’s often seen with co-stars at red carpet events and recently shared a selfie with Yara Shahidi from the television show “Black-ish.”

She stands up against human trafficking
