Man threatened with electric cattle prod during theft in Guelph

A Guelph man is facing weapons and robbery charges after police said he threatened someone with an electric cattle prod.

Guelph Police Service officers were called to Speedvale Avenue East on Tuesday just after 5 p.m. They were told a resident at an apartment building had been taking drugs with another man and accused his companion of stealing drugs.

The suspect then threatened the other man with an electric cattle prod and stole cash before leaving.

Officers found the suspect outside the building almost an hour later and he was arrested. During a search, they found a small amount of suspected fentanyl and hydromorphone.

The 26-year-old Guelph man has been charged with robbery, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of possessing a controlled substance and breaching a probation order.
