A 34-year-old man is facing weapons and drug charges after police said three youths in downtown Guelph were threatened with a knife. The Guelph Police Service said the trio were waiting to cross Paisley and Norfolk streets around 12:25 p.m. on Monday when they were confronted by a man sitting nearby. The man reportedly followed them. They said he was yelling and pulled out a knife. The youths then ran away and called police from a safe place. The man was arrested at a Macdonell Street hotel approximately two-and-a-half hours later. During the arrest, officers found a folding knife and suspected methamphetamine. The man was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a generous purpose, possession of a controlled substance and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
