A Guelph man was arrested on Tuesday following multiple break-ins and thefts this month. The first incident happened on Oct. 8. Guelph Police were called to a business on Woodlawn Road West near Nicklin Road. An employee told officers someone had cut a hole in their fence before they pried open a door and entered the building. A laptop and phone were both missing from inside following the break-in. On Oct. 14, police were called to a different business by Woodlawn Road East and Woolwich Street. Staff told officers they found the door of the establishment broken into when they got there. The business was entered and a large amount of alcohol and food was stolen. While investigating, officers found multiple credit cards with a woman’s name on them. When they spoke to the woman, she said her wallet had been stolen from her vehicle earlier that day and her cards were being used to make multiple purchases at different businesses. The total taken from her cards was $275. The Break Enter Auto Theft Unit identified the suspect and found the man in his north-end apartment on Tuesday evening. The 49-year-old was arrested and charged with two counts each of break and enter, possessing break-in instruments and disguise with intent to commit an offence, eight counts of using a stolen credit card, four counts of fraud under $5,000 and three counts of possessing stolen property.
