A Guelph man is facing multiple firearms charges due to an incident that caused a shelter-in-place on Wednesday. Guelph Police were called to a house near York Road and Harris Street for a reported firearm that had been discharged around 1:30 p.m. Officers informed neighbours on the same street to shelter-in-place, as the Guelph Police Service Tactics and Rescue Unit surrounded the home. After around two hours of negotiating with the suspect inside, a 50-year-old was arrested. A shotgun and almost 50 rounds of ammunition was also taken by police. No one was hurt during the incident. The man was charged with careless use of a firearm, recklessly discharging a firearm, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and unsafe storage of ammunition. He was held for a bail hearing on Thursday.
