A 41-year-old Guelph man has been arrested and charged after police say he defrauded businesses where he was employed of more than $200,000. The Guelph Police Service said Tuesday the charges stem from a lengthy, multi-jurisdictional investigation that began in April 2024. Police said they were initially contacted by management at a Guelph hospitality business after suspected fraudulent activity was discovered. “While employed by the business, the man is alleged to have falsified invoices and demanded payment from customers for outstanding balances related to private and corporate events,” police said in a media release. “The man was terminated after the business discovered the thefts.” In late 2025, another police service contacted Guelph Police after the same man was accused of defrauding another hospitality business where he had been employed. In that case, police allege he accepted deposits for events but did not complete the bookings. The accused was arrested Aug. 18. He has been charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000.
