The Northern Tornadoes Project has confirmed another community was impacted by a downburst during a powerful storm. Rain and wind lashed through southern Ontario on Sept. 2, spawning tornadoes and downbursts. The Northern Tornadoes Project out of Western University has now confirmed another downburst hit the Brodhagen area northwest of Stratford around 5:05 p.m. “Widespread damage was reported in the municipalities of Huron East and West Perth after a storm passed through the area, with relatively strong damage stretching from Winthrop to Brodhagen,” said a report summary from the Northern Tornadoes Project. “Damage was reported to power poles, and several barns, farm outbuildings and grain bins were destroyed. Damage was also reported to several homes, trees, crops and at least one transport truck in the area.” No injuries were reported. Crews said the downburst rated as a EF1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. The determination is made based on wind speeds and related damage. They believe the winds topped out at 155 km/h, and damage was found along a path 23 km long and 8 km wide. The summary also noted some damage north of Brodhagen was caused by an EF1 tornado that spawned near Monkton.
