Guelph driver loses control, hits multiple vehicles and breaks rear axle of transport truck

A Guelph man has been charged with dangerous driving after a four-vehicle collision sent one person to hospital and caused thousands of dollars in damage.

Officers with the Guelph Police Service were called to the corner of Laird Road and Southgate Drive on Monday afternoon around 3:30 p.m.

Investigators said the driver of a SUV lost control while making a turn, drove over grass, swerved back onto the road and hit two other SUVs. Police said the driver then continued across the road and hit a transport truck hard enough to break one of its rear axles.

The driver of one of the other SUVs was taken to hospital with injuries to their head and neck.

A 34-year-old Guelph man was charged with dangerous driving and failing, as a G1 licence holder, to be accompanied by another licenced driver.

Police said the total damage adds up to approximately $150,000.
