Collapsible baton pulled out during fight between teens

A fight between a group of teenagers in downtown Guelph took an unexpected turn when a collapsible baton was pulled out.

The Guelph Police Service said four teens were arguing in the Gordon Street and Wellington Street East area just before 9 p.m. on Friday. During the fight, one person took out the baton and made threats.

Investigators said the two groups had also been fighting a short time earlier at the transit terminal on Carden Street. During that incident, a girl was hit in the face. They also learned two of the suspects were on release orders not to contact each other. When they were asked to identify themselves, they both gave fake names.

A boy and girl from Guelph, both 17-years-old, were charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats, obstructing police and two counts of breaching an undertaking.
