Waterloo Regional Police are investigating after two suspicious people approached an elderly woman in Cambridge on Saturday. At around 12 p.m., police were notified about an attempted distraction theft near Franklin Boulevard and Elgin Street. The elderly victim told officers a female suspect had exited a dark-coloured vehicle and approached her. The female suspect then tried to speak to the woman before trying to place a necklace on her. She was able to successfully back away from the suspect before she was able to place the jewelry. A male suspect was also present but police did not say if he attempted to interact with the woman. The suspects then left in the vehicle soon after. No one was physically hurt. Police have asked anyone with information to call 519-570-9777.
