The lingering warmth in Waterloo Region has broken another temperature record. On Nov. 3, the mercury reached 22.4 degrees Celsius in the area, narrowly edging out the previous daily temperature record of 22.2 degrees Celsius that was set in 1961. It comes as the region, and most of southern Ontario, is experiencing a warmer than normal fall. Rob Kuhn, a severe weather meteorologist with Environment Canada, compared Tuesday’s temperature with the average high for Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Waterloo Region’s average temperature in October was 1.5 degrees Celsius above the long-term average, with daily highs averaging 17.5 degrees Celsius. Daily heat records were also set on Oct. 13 and Oct. 29. Environment Canada said the average high for this time of year is usually around just 10 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists say a strong El Nino is behind the unseasonable temperatures. With reporting from Heather Senoran
