Waterloo Regional Police have made an arrest connected to a robbery at a Waterloo business on Tuesday. Officers were called to the location near University Avenue West and Phillip Street around 7 p.m. They were told a suspect had entered the establishment, picked out merchandise and left without paying. A member of staff was assaulted by the man when he tried to confront him and received minor injuries. Police were able to quickly find the man nearby the business. He resisted officers as they were trying to arrest him and gave a fake name. Police later confirmed the suspect’s real identity and learned he was wanted on outstanding warrants, including breach of probation and possession of a prohibited weapon. The 36-year-old from Waterloo was additionally charged with robbery, resisting arrest and obstructing a peace officer.
