Police stress importance of reporting Investigators say the success of the operation highlights the value of timely reporting and evidence collection. “Retail theft affects local businesses, employees, and community members. Business owners often absorb significant financial losses, which can contribute to higher prices, increased security costs, and additional pressures on staff,” the Greater Sudbury Police Service said in a news release. Police also noted that repeated theft incidents can affect the overall sense of safety in the community. Information submitted through the force’s online reporting system, along with surveillance footage and other evidence, allowed officers to identify suspects and link them to multiple occurrences that might otherwise have remained unsolved. “Businesses are encouraged to continue reporting retail theft incidents through our online reporting system and to provide any available evidence, including surveillance footage and suspect descriptions,” said police. According to police, such reports help investigators identify patterns, track repeat offenders and support successful prosecutions.
