Emergency responders showed up at a home in Puslinch Township on Thursday for what turned out to be a swatting call, a fake emergency mean to elicit a large response from police, firefighters or paramedics. Ontario Provincial Police said someone called 9-1-1 about a “violent family dispute with weapons” at a home on Maltby Road. “This required several police units to attend,” they wrote in a media release. “Investigation determined that the information provided by the caller was false and no actual emergency existed.” Swatting incidents can have serious consequences as they divert emergency responders away from other critical calls, not to mention the alarm and stress caused in the community. Police are asking for the public’s help as they investigate the Maltby Road call. Anyone with information should contact Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
