Police respond to bomb threat at Cambridge Centre

A mall in Cambridge was temporarily evacuated on Thursday. CTV’s Karis Mapp finds out why.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service has confirmed they responded to a bomb threat in Cambridge on Thursday.

Staff from the Cambridge Centre called police at approximately 9 a.m. to report an online bomb threat.

Officers rushed to the area and the mall was evacuated while a search was conducted. Nothing suspicious was found and the threat was deemed not credible.

A witness told CTV News they saw multiple police vehicles in the area, but never saw ambulances or the bomb squad.

“Everybody is just very confused and a little bit concerned,” CJ Janzen told CTV News. “There’s nothing obvious or overly stressful. It’s just very strange.”

Serena Peter works at the mall. She had just arrived for her shift when she spotted about half a dozen police vehicles outside.

“I thought everybody felt pretty calm just because they weren’t too aware of what was going on,” she said.

The Cambridge Centre reopened shortly before noon.
