Suspects sought in garbage can fire; surveillance footage released

In a bid to catch the people responsible for a damaging fire in Kitchener’s west end, Waterloo Regional Police have released two pieces of surveillance video showing the incident.

According to police, the fire occurred around at the Sunrise Centre shopping plaza at Ottawa Street and Fischer-Hallman Road.

It was sparked around 3 a.m. on June 28, in a garbage can at the plaza.

The video shows three people milling about near the can, then standing around as the first flames are seen before walking away.

Although responding firefighters extinguished the flames, damage is estimated at $30,000.
