Six people arrested in Brant County and Brantford drug busts

Police from across southern Ontario teamed up to carry out a major drug bust in Brant County and Brantford.

On Tuesday, Brant County OPP, with help from officers from Oxford, Middlesex, Elgin, Wellington, Haldimand and Norfolk, searched a home on Maple Crescent in Paris, Ont. and another on Sheridan Street in Brantford.

All told, six people were taken into custody.

A 21-year-old man was arrested at the Brantford home. He was charged with possession of fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, two counts of careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

A 21-year-old woman from Brantford was also arrested. She faces the same charges, as well as failure to comply with a probation order and possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.

Police seized fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and hydromorphone pills from the home, as well as two handguns, one of which was loaded, and more than $50,000 in cash.

A 53-year-old man was arrested in Paris and charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm, weapon or prohibited device or ammunition, possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order and failure to comply with an undertaking.

A 50-year-old was also charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and breaching a conditional sentence order.

Two women, aged 46 and 44, were arrested and charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Police seized suspected cocaine, a loaded bullpup rifle, a ballistic vest, a 12-gauge shotgun, two rifles and ammunition.

The total estimated value of the drugs and other items seized is approximately $210,100.
