Anyone in Waterloo Region who wants to get rid of their old green bin can do so at a series of community drop-off events. The first event was held from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday at Waterloo City Hall’s parking lot. Hundreds of green bins could be seen at the drop off on Saturday at Waterloo City Hall. “I’m bringing them back, because I just don’t have room to store them anymore. There’s so much stuff now,” Bill Carroll told CTV News. “This is great. I’m glad that the city is taking them back and recycling them. It’s wonderful.” Another event is scheduled for Sunday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the North Dumfries Community Complex parking lot. The region is encouraging residents to try to find new uses for the old bins, but anyone who just wants to be rid of them can dop them off at the community events to be recycled. They can also bring them to Waste Management sites during regular working hours for disposal. If those options aren’t feasible, residents can also place their bin at the curb on bulky item collection day with a sign reading, ‘Garbage. Please take.’ Residents received new black and green waste collection carts when the Region of Waterloo switched to a new collection system.
