Vancouver Park Board Commissioner Angela Haer has addressed her previous volunteer work with the KidsPlay Foundation after the charity’s co-founder Kalwinder Dosanjh was criminally charged last week. Haer issued a statement on her involvement with KidsPlay on Monday, saying she is “aware of comments” that have been circulating about her association with the foundation. “To be clear, I have not been approached by investigators, I have not been charged, and I am not accused of any wrongdoing,” Haer said. “My involvement was voluntary, unpaid, and taken on in good faith because KidsPlay’s stated work focused on children, youth sport and recreation. As a Vancouver Park Board commissioner, supporting opportunities for young people to participate in sport was consistent with my public service.” Haer said she left the charity in May 2025, and that her role was not related to “finances, banking, accounting, cheque writing, or day-to-day operations.” She also said any decisions regarding her political future are “separate from these allegations.” When announcing she would not run for re-election on Saturday, Haer cited a desire to be more present in the lives of her children as they move through high school and university. The commissioner was previously elected under Mayor Ken Sim’s ABC party, which issued a brief statement thanking her for her service over the weekend. Dosanjh—a 26-year veteran of the Vancouver Police Department—was arrested on Thursday following a years-long internal investigation into alleged theft and fraud. Authorities said they have identified 19 alleged victims so far who suffered combined losses of more than $3 million. Dosanjh, who was charged alongside a business partner named Sarabjit Singh Gill, has denied the allegations, and said he looks forward to clearing his name in court.
