Police say driver faces four charges following seven-vehicle crash in Cambridge

Police say a man driving erratically caused a truck to plow through a busy intersection at Hespeler Road and Dundas Street North Friday afternoon around 3:30 p.m.

Seven vehicles were damaged in the incident.

Police say a 49-year-old Cambridge man is now facing four charges including failure to remain and assault.

They say a black Chevrolet Envoy failed to stop two blocks east of the intersection, crashed into another vehicle and kept going.

A chain reaction then drew four vehicles stopped for a red light at the Delta into the crash.

Witnesses at the scene say at least one vehicle was airborne during the crash.

"I was stopped here at a red light to turn left and the Chevy truck rear-ended my passenger-side rear-end and literally went airborne past me," said Joseph Martins.

The driver of the Envoy and a citizen who tried to intervene were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A number of streets near the Delta were also closed, but were expected to reopen Friday evening.
