More than 20 small-breed dogs are getting much-needed care after they were found in several rural areas of southern Ontario. The Cambridge & District Humane Society said some of the dogs were brought to their shelter while others are in the care of at least two other nearby organizations. “The condition they were in was heartbreaking. Many had open wounds, were extremely fearful, heavily matted, and suffering from sarcoptic mange, a highly contagious skin disease requiring immediate treatment,” the Humane Society wrote on social media. The dogs that were brought to the Cambridge location have since been transferred to a rescue known as Mattie’s Place. The rescue said they are being taken to a veterinarian who will come up with a plan for their care. PAWS, the provincial animal welfare service, has been notified about the case. Anyone with information about what happened to the dogs is urged to call 1-833-926-4625.
