Work is still underway to reopen the Stroud Innisfil Community Centre but it’s not happening anytime soon. “We know how important Stroud Arena is to our community, and we understand how eager people are to see it reopen,” says Nicole Bowman, director of operations. “I want residents to know that a tremendous amount of work is happening behind the scenes. As additional conditions are uncovered, we are addressing them so the facility can safely reopen as soon as possible.” While the town regularly inspects and maintains facilities, there are some conditions within a building that can only be identified once walls, ceilings and other areas are opened up. Staff are addressing these findings as they arise and continuing to move the restoration project forward. As areas of the building have been exposed, staff say several unexpected conditions have been identified that require additional work before the facility can safely reopen. These include: The additional work will extend the arena closure beyond the previously targeted November 2026 reopening date. Staff are continuing to assess the scope, cost and timeline and will provide a further update at a council meeting in September. Arena ice users will continue to be accommodated at the town’s other two arenas through January 18, 2027, while staff work with user groups to adjust schedules and explore available options. The current target reopening date for the Stroud Banquet Hall remains February 15, 2027. The town will continue to provide updates as the work progresses and more information becomes available.
