A 34-year-old man has been charged for a fire at a Kitchener townhouse complex that caused an estimated $200,000 in damage. Waterloo Regional Police said they received reports about a man who set a fire at Courtland Avenue East and Hillmount Street on Sunday at 6:30 a.m. Officers found a front entrance, which was shared by two units, engulfed in flames. Both were vacant at the time. Police then evacuated the neighbouring townhomes. No one was hurt. According to the City of Kitchener, firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze quickly. Officers located the suspect nearby, who was arrested without incident. The 34-year-old man was charged with arson (disregard for human life).
