Kitchener man arrested after trying to strike person with machete

A man from Kitchener was arrested on Sunday following an incident downtown.

Waterloo Regional Police were called near Weber Street West and Victoria Street North for reports of a man who was hitting items with a machete around 5:25 p.m. Police were told when another person tried to go up to the man, he tried to hit them with the machete before leaving the area.

Officers were able to find and arrest the man soon after. They also confiscated the machete.

The 31-year-old was charged with uttering threats, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
