The long wait is over for residents of a long-term care facility in Ohsweken. On Wednesday, Six Nations of the Grand River (SNGR) announced people who had been displaced from Iroquois Lodge due to flooding last year were finally moving to a new residence closer to home. “SNGR is pleased to finally share that Iroquois Lodge residents will be moving to the Fox Ridge facility, on August 18, 2026. Fox Ridge will provide a safe and welcoming space for the residents while we progress with the new Iroquois Lodge build in Ohsweken,” a news release said. Iroquois Lodge residents left the facility in June 2025 and relocated to a long-term care facility in Delhi. They have been there ever since as Six Nations of the Grand River and the City of Brantford worked out a deal to move them to the Fox Ridge facility on West Street in Brantford. They also needed approval from the Ministry of Long-Term Care. Fox Ridge, meantime, needed months of remediation and updating work. The extended wait in Delhi did not go unnoticed by members of the community. At a council meeting on July 28, 2026, SNGR CEO Debra Jonathan briefly addressed the situation. “I know there’s a lot of questions about when our residents will be moving from the Delhi site to the Brantford Fox Ridge site,” she said. “There are a few outstanding reports that the Ministry of Long-Term Care is waiting for from the City of Brantford. Once those are received and reviewed, then that move can begin.”
