Two different transit workers were assaulted in separate incidents that occurred less than ten hours apart Tuesday. The first incident happened around 6 a.m. Tuesday at Dunkirk Avenue and Kingston row in Old St. Vital. Winnipeg police said a passenger getting off the bus threw a beer can at the driver. The suspect then allegedly bit the driver when they tried to restrain him. A 51-year-old man remains in custody. Then, around 3:30 in the afternoon, a transit supervisor was checking fares at Main Street and Pioneer Avenue when they were allegedly punched in the face by a woman who refused to pay. Police said the supervisor held the suspect until community safety officers arrived. A 31-year-old woman is charged with assaulting a peace officer. She has since been released on an appearance notice.
