Heavy rain, thunderstorm and strong winds in the forecast for southwestern Ontario

A special weather statement was issued Wednesday afternoon for all of southwestern Ontario.

Environment Canada warned that strong winds, heavy rain and thunderstorms were on the way.

They said it would start with showers in the early evening and then intensify as a strong low-pressure system moved across the province.

“There is a potential for severe thunderstorms late this evening and overnight with heavy rain and strong wind gusts being the primary threats,” the alert read. “Watches or warnings may be issued closer to the event as the path of this low-pressure system becomes more certain.”

Environment Canada is predicting more than 40 mm of rain, along with wind gusts of 70 to 90 km/h.

The wet and windy weather is expected to continue into Thursday morning.
