Guelph police are warning the public not to fall for tricks involving treats, after two children were approached by three people in a vehicle and offered candy outside a south-end school. Police say the incident happened around 6:35 p.m. Tuesday, when a nine-year-old boy and a friend were playing at the school. According to police, the children were approached by the occupants of a red Toyota. The children were asked if they wanted candy and were invited to get some from the vehicle’s trunk. The two children ran away from the area, police say. The vehicle was occupied by two young males and one young female, according to investigators. School officials were notified of the incident and shared a safety message with parents, reminding families to talk to children about interactions with strangers. Police encourage parents to remind children not to enter vehicles without their parents’ direct permission and to report suspicious encounters to a trusted adult. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Const. Jonathan Schleen at 519-824-1212, ext. 7570, or email jschleen@guelphpolice.ca. The police occurrence number is GU26074004.
