An upcoming string of federal by-elections across Canada will affect some voters in east central Saskatchewan. By-elections were called for five ridings across Ontario, Quebec and one in Saskatchewan – Yorkton-Melville. Elections day is slated for Dec. 7. To be able to vote, electors must have a listed home address in the riding from Nov. 1, 2026, to Dec. 7, 2026. Additionally, they must be a Canadian citizen and be at least 18 years old on election day. How to register Residents can check Elections Canada’s Online Voter Registration Service to first see if they’re registered or update their address, as most Canadians who are eligible to vote are already registered, according to Elections Canada. If they’re not registered, they can do so online to save a step when they arrive at the polls. If residents don’t want to register online, they can do so at the polls, just before they vote, as long as they have proof of identity and address. Those who are registered should get a voter information card in the mail that will tell them when and where to vote. People can also find that information by entering their postal code here. To be able to vote, people don’t need to work about having their voter information card with them. In addition to Yorkton-Melville, those in the ridings of Brantford-Brant South in Ontario, Laurier-Sainte-Marie in Quebec, Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie in Quebec, Saint-Hyacinthe–Bagot–Acton in Quebec, and Scarborough North in Ontario will also head to the polls on Dec. 7.
