Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are warning the public about the dangers of opioid use after responding to six suspected overdoses in Haldimand County over a three-week period. In a news release, police said officers attended overdoses between Dec. 20, 2025, and Jan. 8, 2026. Four of the incidents resulted in death. Police did not release further details about the victims or the circumstances surrounding the overdoses. The OPP issued a public safety alert due to the “number of overdoses in a short period of time.” “These overdoses certainly highlight the fact that the misuse and abuse of controlled substances is highly dangerous and can be deadly,” Det. Sgt. Darryl Graham said in part. “We also know that overdose deaths can be preventable if medical attention is received quickly so I would like to remind witnesses to call 911 and stay with the victim. Don’t be afraid, just pick up the phone and call, it could save your friend’s life” Police also reminded the public that the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act protects people who seek emergency help during an overdose or who remain on scene when first responders arrive. Police said they hope to hold those responsible for trafficking illegal drugs accountable and are asking anyone with information to call Haldimand OPP at 1-888-310-1122. What to do in the event of an overdose Police are advising people who use unregulated drugs not to use them alone and to carry a naloxone kit. Anyone experiencing serious illness after the consuming unregulated drugs is urged to call 911 or seek immediate medical attention at an emergency department.
