Fake bills used to buy another iPhone in Guelph

Anyone trying to sell an iPhone in Guelph might want to use extra caution as police are investigating a second case of someone using fake $100 bills to purchase a phone.

In the most recent incident, a male living near Victoria Road North and Woodland Road East called police on Sunday around 10:45 p.m. He said he had been selling an iPhone 16 Pro through Facebook Marketplace and had agreed to meet with a potential buyer at his home.

The buyer handed over ten $100 bills. The seller, believing something was off, questioned the buyer about the money, but they ran off.

The ‘buyer’ has been described as a brown male around the age of 18. He wore a black puffy coat at the time.

On Dec. 3, another Guelph resident said they had been given seven fake bills for an iPhone 15 Pro. The suspect in that case has a similar description.

In both incidents, the suspect’s Facebook page was deleted after he had the phone.
