Dangerous driving considered factor in crash that shut 401 near Woodstock

A crash that closed all eastbound lanes of Highway 401 in Oxford County was caused by dangerous driving, provincial police say.

The crash occurred around 1:45 p.m. Monday, and shut the highway between Foldens Line and Sweaburg Road.

It involved a pickup truck, two tractor-trailers and two other vehicles, and ended up with one of the tractor-trailers jackknifed across all the eastbound lanes.

The driver of the pickup truck – William Coutts, a 32-year-old Waterloo resident – faces charges of dangerous driving, driving while suspended and driving while disqualified.

The highway reopened shortly after 4 p.m.
