Burford, Ont. resident loses $5K to repair scam

Ontario Provincial Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a fraudster.

They said a man, who claimed to represent a construction company called 24 Hrs Roofing and Masonry, was going door-to-door in Brant County to solicit renovations.

On Jan. 9, a homeowner in Burford handed over $5,000 to get his chimney repaired.

OPP said that work was never completed.

The “representative” was described as white, approximately 35 years old, 6’0” tall and 230 lbs. He was also driving a black pickup truck.

“If you live in the Brant County area and have video footage of the representative from this company, or a licence plate to his vehicle, please contact the Brant County OPP regarding this incident [at 1-888-310-1122],” they said in a media release.

“The Brant County OPP reminds residents to stay alert to any door-to-door salespersons,” OPP said. “You, the homeowner, should do your own homework when verifying a company’s credentials and background check.”
