Barricaded individual taken into custody north of Arthur: OPP

Ontario Provincial Police say a person barricaded inside a home near Arthur has been taken into custody without incident.

Wellington County OPP responded to a residence on Highway 6 in Wellington North Township around 11:45 p.m. Friday.

Police said the incident prompted a large response that included the OPP’s West Region Tactics and Rescue Unit, Emergency Response Team, canine unit, crisis negotiators and paramedic services.

Highway 6 was closed between Sideroad 10 and Wells Street during the incident, but has since reopened.

Police said the individual was transported to hospital for assessment. No charges have been laid, and the person’s name is not being released “out of concern for their well-being.”

OPP said the incident was isolated and there is no risk to public safety.
