CFIA recalls prepackaged food products over possible listeria contamination

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning about several pre-made meal products that are being recalled due to possible listeria contamination.

Five types of Inspired Go products are being recalled due to microbial contamination involving listeria.

The products include Bento Noodle Bowl, Greek Mezze Salad, Dill Chickpea Salad, Super Solstice Salad, and Pickle Platter Snack Pack. They were sold in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and online.

The recall was originally published on Dec. 14 and was updated on Dec. 19 to include more details about distribution.

Anyone who may have bought these products is being asked not to consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute them. The CFIA advises that the recalled products be thrown out or returned to where they were bought.

“Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick,” the notice reads. “Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.”

Those with weakened immune systems, like seniors and pregnant women, are particularly vulnerable. While infected pregnant women may not experience severe symptoms beyond mild flu-like illness, the infection can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn or even stillbirth. An infection can even lead to death in severe cases.

The recall was launched by the company, Inspired Go. So far, there have been no reports of illnesses linked to the consumption of the recalled products.
