A four-issue story arc from Lena Dunham, the creator, director and lead actress of TV hit series Girls, is coming to the world of Archie.

"We sent her a box of tons of Archie books; she devoured them all, and maybe a week or two later came back with her pitch," the chief creative officer of Archie Comics, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, told Comic Book Resources.

Dunham has described herself as "an avid Archie collector" in her youth.

"It has so much cultural significance but also so much personal significance, and to get to play with these beloved characters is a wild creative opportunity," Dunham said in a statement.

Aguirre-Sacasa has already overseen several innovations for the Archie cast, from a view of their adulthood in "Life with Archie", to a zombie-themed "Afterlife with Archie."

"She brings a unique point-of-view to all these characters, but she also loves them, and knows what makes them work," he told CBR.

"It's really good stuff, and obviously it's going to be a huge deal for Archie."
