Woman previously convicted in death of horses pleads not guilty to new animal cruelty charges

A Parkland County woman who had been convicted of starving and mistreating horses has pleaded not guilty to new animal abuse charges. Nav Sangha reports.

A Parkland County woman who has been convicted multiple times of starving and mistreating horses has pleaded not guilty to new charges of animal cruelty.

Patricia Moore’s lawyer entered the plea on her behalf in an Evansburg, Alta. courtroom on Monday.

In April, Moore was charged with possessing stolen property, two counts of causing unnecessary pain and suffering or injury to an animal, breaching a court order, and breaching a probation order.

Police seized several horses from Moore’s property at the time the charges were laid.

Moore has a court-ordered lifetime ban from owning horses.

The ban was imposed in 2022 after Moore was found guilty under the Animal Protection Act on four charges in relation to the deaths of seven horses in 2018.

A total of 65 horses and six dogs were seized from her property in that case.

She was also convicted of permitting horses to be in distress in 2012.

Moore was released on conditions after her arrest in April, including rehoming any horses still on her property.

A trial date will be set next month.
