When’s the last time April started off this cool?

It’s been a chilly first week of April in Edmonton and across much of north-central Alberta.

For Edmonton, the long-term average high for the first week of April is 7 C. But, we’ve seen that climb in recent years.

Over the past decade, the average high is up to 8 C and has jumped to 10 C in the past five years.

We haven’t even hit 10 C ONCE in this first week of April and we’ll end up with an average high of just 4 C.

Only two years in the past decade have had a cooler start to April.

The average high in 2020 was -4 C through the first seven days of April and 2018’s average high for that period was -5 C.

Looking ahead, temperatures should hit double digits Friday/Saturday. But, most of next week is trending slightly cooler than average.
