‘We want to be the voice’: Demonstration held in support of Iran

A demonstration in Edmonton saw people gather in support of Iran on Sunday.

“We want to be the voice of the people in Iran, we want all the world to hear us, what the people of Iran want,” said volunteer Soroush Azankakhari.

For the last several months, Iran has been in a state of unrest following the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a wave of airstrikes.

The country has been without internet for months, making it difficult for people abroad to connect with family back home.

“People want freedom, basic things,” said Azankakhari. “They want to have a choice.”

The war in Iran has seen more than 3,000 civilians killed, with tens of thousands injured.
