Water spills onto 97 Street from water main break in north Edmonton

Epcor crews were dealing with a water main break Monday morning in the area of 101 Street between 118 and 121 Avenue.

Traffic in north Edmonton was impacted on Monday morning by a water main break.

Epcor crews responded to the break at 97 Street and 120 Avenue early in the morning and shut off the water, but not before the southbound lanes of 97 Street were impacted.

Epcor says water main breaks are more common in winter and spring because of temperature fluctuations.

“As the ground freezes and thaws, it can shift and put pressure on pipes. Signs of a break may include water coming up from the ground, a pool of water on the road that is not near a drain or catch basin, and steam rising off the water,” a spokesperson wrote in an email to CTV News Edmonton.
