Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Edmonton area on Monday. A watch was issued for Edmonton, St. Albert and Sherwood Park at 11:30 a.m. It was upgraded to a warning at 1 p.m. “Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a cluster of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts, loonie to ping pong ball size hail and very heavy rain,” it said in its latest update. The storm could cause damage to property, vehicles or trees, and large hail could cause significant damage and injury, Environment Canada said. Edmonton’s forecast is mainly cloudy with 60-per cent chance of showers during the day, and partly cloudy with 30-per cent chance of showers early in the evening. A severe thunderstorm rocked the capital region late Saturday night, impacting events, downing trees and flooding roads.
