Scammers steal 85-year-old man’s credit card, charging more than $30K to his account: EPS

Edmonton Police Service is investigating after a local senior was scammed out of more than $30,000.

On Jan. 30, scammers who identified themselves as bank employees called an 85-year-old man and said his credit cards were being used outside of the city, police said.

The senior was instructed to cut up his credit and debit cards, place them inside an envelope and wait for a bank courier to pick it up.

Police said two men were seen on a surveillance camera using his credit cards, racking up more than $30,000 shortly after the pick up.

On Tuesday, police put out a call for information to identify the men.

On Thursday, police said the men had been identified and the investigation was still underway.
