Red Deer man accused of driving company vehicle while impaired

A 34-year-old man from Red Deer is accused of driving while impaired after multiple reports of erratic driving through the city and a highway crash, police say.

Just before 6 p.m. on April 19, Mounties got word from a local company that an employee was operating a work vehicle while impaired.

At the same time, multiple 911 calls were reporting the same vehicle swerving and crossing centre lines throughout the city. It was first reported in the Southpointe Junction area and was later in a hit-and-run crash on Highway 2. Nobody was injured.

Red Deer RCMP found the vehicle driving around the Edgar Industrial area, where it fled from officers trying to stop it.

It finally stopped at a close-ended intersection and the driver was arrested.

He now faces charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle, refusal to comply with demand, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop after an accident, flight from a peace officer and two counts of failure to comply with a judicial order.

He is in custody with a court date scheduled for April 23 in Red Deer.
