RCMP officer receives life saving award after responding to overdosing youth

It was a nice surprise for one Parkland RCMP officer, after he was presented with the St. John Ambulance Life Saving Award last month.

Const. Sippel responded to a call involving a youth who was experiencing an overdose almost two years ago, said a news release from Alberta RCMP Monday.

After receiving no reaction to a sternum rub, he checked for both a carotid and radial pulse but was unable to locate either. Const. Sippel then quickly moved the youth to the floor and began CPR.

Moments later, the youth started to move and it was determined they were breathing. EMS arrived shortly after and took over.

Alberta RCMP said they would like to recognize officers like Sippel with his swift actions and quick thinking that contributed to saving the young person’s life.
